The Chinese Mid Autum Festival in Singapore
The Chinese Mid Autum Festival, sometimes known as mooncake festival is one of the major festivals widely celebrated by Singaporean Chinese. It falls on the 15th day of the 8th Lunar Month of the year.
It was a tradition that is more than 2000 years old where in the olden days people celebrates the end of Autum to thank the gods for fruitful harvest.
In the modern days in Singapore, although it is not declared as a public holiday, it is widely practice in the community to celebrate Chinese Mid Autum Festival with beautiful lanterns, awesome mooncakes with Chinese Tea and pomelo fruits as a great day to get together for family and friends bonding. Good to also mention that a “Super” Size moon is often expected to be seen in this day for the lucky ones!
Chinese Lanterns for the Mid Autum Festival in Singapore
Chinese Paper Lanterns are the common signs of the mid autum festival, just like the symbolic Christmas trees for Christmas Festive. The Chinese Paper Lanterns is a lantern made of thin, brightly colored paper which come in various shapes and sizes, as well as various methods of construction. In their simplest form, they are simply a paper bag with a candle placed inside and base on your imaginations, you can create all sorts of characters from simple fish, rooster to dragon or even spaceships!
Doing the lantern yourself instead of buying off the shelf is even more fun and it promotes bonding with families and friends. Children can demonstrate their creativity though the colour presentation, shapes and size of the lantern.
